Silvano Girotto, also known as Padre Leone and more famously as Frate Mitra, was an Italian religious figure born on April 3, 1939, in Caselle Torinese. He was a legionary, Franciscan missionary, and guerrilla fighter in Chile. Girotto was a co-founder of the Revolutionary Left Movement and an advocate of liberation theology, opposing dictator Augusto Pinochet. His name is also associated with the events involving the Red Brigades during Italy's Years of Lead, as he assisted police in capturing Renato Curcio and Alberto Franceschini in 1974, while secretly opposing armed struggle in Italy.
