Sir Simon Michael Schama, born February 13, 1945, is a British historian known for his work in art history and the histories of Dutch, Jewish, and French cultures. He studied history and art history at Columbia University in New York. Schama gained public attention with his 1989 book 'Citizens', which covers the French Revolution. He became popular in the UK for writing and producing the BBC's 15-part series 'A History of Britain' aired from 2000 to 2002. He was appointed a CBE and received the FRSL honor, becoming a Sir in 2018.
