Sir Erskine William Gladstone, 7th Baronet, was a British teacher and Royal Navy officer born on 29 October 1925. He served as Chief Scout of the Scout Association from 1972 to 1982. Great-grandson of former Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone, he was educated at Eton and joined the Royal Navy during World War II, eventually becoming a lieutenant. After the war, he studied at Christ Church, Oxford and began his teaching career, leading Lancing School as headmaster from 1961 until his retirement in 1969. He passed away on 29 March 2018.
