Sirkka Liakka was a pioneering Finnish survey engineer, born on February 18, 1908, in Alatornio and passed away on October 16, 1999, in Kouvola. Graduating as a survey engineer in 1931, she was the first woman in Finland and the Nordic countries to work in field surveying. Liakka was also a founding member of the Women Surveyors Association and was recognized for her contributions and perseverance in a male-dominated field. She retired in 1973 after 40 years of service.
