Sitagu Sayadaw, born Ashin Nyanissara, is a prominent Burmese meditation teacher and Buddhist scholar known for founding the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy. Since 1977, he has been involved in a variety of humanitarian, educational, medical, and religious activities. He has traveled globally to promote interfaith dialogue and humanitarian efforts, gaining recognition in the Buddhist community. In 2012, he was honored as the Upaukkaṭṭha of the Shwegyin Nikaya, a significant position within the Buddhist tradition.
