Şivan Perwer is a Kurdish poet, writer, and musician who was born on September 23, 1955, in the village of Suruç near Urfa in Northern Kurdistan. He is regarded as one of the most prominent pioneers of Kurdish music and has received numerous honorary doctorates in music. In 1976, he was forced to flee Turkey due to his patriotic songs and lived in exile for 37 years until returning to Diyarbakır on November 16, 2013.
