Campbell Aurelius 'Skeets' Tolbert was a prominent American jazz alto saxophonist, clarinetist, singer, and bandleader in the swing era. Born on February 14, 1909, in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, he grew up in Lincolntown, North Carolina and studied at Johnson C. Smith University. Active from 1929, he recorded with the Dixie Serenaders and led his own band, Tolbert's Gentlemen of Swing. Later, he transitioned to teaching music and worked with the American Federation of Musicians. Tolbert passed away on November 30, 2000, in Houston, Texas.
