SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is a retired General of the Bangladesh Army, born on December 1, 1963. He served as the 17th Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh from June 24, 2021, to June 23, 2024. Prior to his appointment as the army chief, he held the position of Quartermaster General (QMG) with the rank of Lieutenant General. Over his 40-year military career, he has also served as the Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Director of Military Training (DMT), as well as commanding an infantry brigade and division.
