Smiljko Kostić was a prominent Serbian politician and director born in Žitoradja on February 22, 1945. He served as the general director of DINA from 1984 to February 1998 and was the mayor of Niš from 2004 to 2008. Kostić was also one of the six politicians from the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) who served as representatives in the first assembly of the National Assembly elected in the 1991 parliamentary elections. He gained wider recognition in Serbia for a cult video on YouTube regarding the 2004 mayoral election results.
