S. D. Bob 'Snake' Plissken is the protagonist of the films Escape from New York (1981) and Escape from L.A. (1996), played by Kurt Russell. Created by John Carpenter and Nick Castle, Plissken is an antihero and former U.S. Army Special Forces lieutenant who served in World War III. Offered a pardon by the federal government, he undertakes perilous missions in maximum security prisons due to rampant crime. The character also featured in the 2003 comic book miniseries Snake Plissken Chronicles and has been popular in culture.
