John Joseph "Sod" Ryan was an American football tackle born on December 31, 1905, who played in the NFL for two seasons. He was associated with the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans. Ryan played five games with the Bears in 1929 and three with the Spartans in 1930. He was notably friends with Bears owner George Halas. He started his football career at the college level with the Detroit Titans at the University of Detroit and attended Kewanee High School in Kewanee, Illinois. He passed away on December 9, 1964.
