Sofia Sakorafa is a Greek-Palestinian politician and former javelin thrower, born on April 29, 1957, in Trikala, Thessaly, Greece. She currently serves as an independent member of the European Parliament for Greece. Previously, she was a member of the Hellenic Parliament from June 2012 to July 2014, elected on the left-wing Syriza party list. Sakorafa is known for her strong support for the Palestinian cause and attempted to participate in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens but was denied by the Olympic committee due to her Palestinian nationality.
