Sofia Simmonds is an American biochemist known for her work on amino acid metabolism and peptide metabolism in Escherichia coli. After training at Cornell University under Vincent de Vries, she spent most of her career at Yale University. Following decades of research and later as an assistant professor, she became a professor of biochemistry in 1975 and served as an associate dean at Yale College. Along with her husband Joseph Frotton, she co-authored the first reference book in biochemistry titled 'General Biochemistry.' In 1969, she received the Graven Medal from the American Chemical Society.
