Soheil Arabi is an Iranian writer and blogger born on August 21, 1985, in Tehran, Iran. In 2013, he was sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad in his posts on Facebook. He became the first Iranian prisoner to have his death sentence commuted due to his offense; his sentence was reduced in 2015 to several years in prison, along with a requirement to study Islamic jurisprudence for two years. He has been recognized with the Press Freedom Prize from Reporters Without Borders for his stand against abuse of power.
