Solomon Burke (March 21, 1940 - October 10, 2010) was an American soul and rhythm and blues singer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was discovered in 1955 during a talent show and signed a contract with Apollo Records, but found little success until he began working with Atlantic Records in 1960. His popularity peaked in the 1960s, and he influenced artists such as Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, and Tom Jones. In addition to his singing career, Burke was also a songwriter, famously penning hits like 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.'
