Somkid Jatusripitak, born July 15, 1953, is a Thai economist, business theorist, and politician. Educated by Philip Kotler, he has authored books on competitiveness and taught marketing in Thai universities. As a co-founder and leader of the Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT), he played a key role in developing the party's progressive economic and social reform program. He served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Commerce under Thaksin Shinawatra. After the 2006 coup, he was appointed as an economic envoy and supported the royal family's 'self-sufficiency' economic agenda.
