Son Seok-u was a prominent South Korean songwriter and composer, born on December 30, 1920, in Jangheung. He was a pioneer of Korean popular music in the 1950s and 1960s, well-known for composing and producing the influential song 'The Boy in The Yellow Shirt' by Han Myeong-suk in 1961, which played a significant role in the inception of the Korean Wave (Hallyu). His contributions to music were recognized with the Order of Cultural Merit in 2003 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Korean Music Awards in 2011.
