His career took off with a victory at the 2005 Junior Asian Championship in Almaty. He qualified for the 2008 Olympics through a surprising internal selection. In the tournament, he moved to the final after defeating notable competitors and won against Mark Lopez to claim the gold. After the Olympics, he struggled to stay in the national team.
