Sonny Perdue is an American politician born on December 20, 1946. He served as the 31st U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 2017 to 2021. Prior to this role, he was the 81st Governor of Georgia from January 13, 2003, to 2011, becoming the first Republican governor of Georgia since the Reconstruction era. Perdue's nomination as Secretary of Agriculture was announced by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate in April 2017. He is notably the second Secretary of Agriculture from the Deep South, following Mike Espy.
