Sophie Jane Gurney (née Raverat, formerly Pryor) was an English artist known for her colorful interpretations of natural forms in gouache and print. Born in 1919, she was the daughter of wood engraver Gwen Darwin and painter Jacques Raverat, and she was a great-granddaughter of Charles Darwin. Gurney was educated at home and later at the Perse School for Girls, followed by the Royal College of Music. She married entomologist Mark Pryor in 1940 and later married Charles Gurney. She passed away in 2011 at the age of 91.
