Ernest C. Carter Jr., known as 'Spoon', was a professional baseball pitcher in the Negro leagues during the 1930s and 1940s. He began his career in 1932 with the Memphis Red Sox and Birmingham Black Barons. Carter played a significant role on the Homestead Grays, winning two Negro World Series titles. Continued to play into his late 40s, he returned to the Memphis team and participated in the 1947 East–West All-Star Game. His career included stints in the Mandak League before his death in 1974.
