Stanisław Wojciech Zagaja was a notable Polish pomologist and an influential figure in the field of horticulture. Born on May 11, 1925, in Szczurowa, Poland, he dedicated his career to the study and improvement of orchard plants. As a professor since 1963 and director from 1984 at the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture in Skierniewice, Zagaja contributed significantly to fruit tree breeding, selection, and seed physiology. His work also involved the development of apple rootstocks and hybrids of peach and cherry. He became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1983.
