Stepan Kostyshyn (1932-2022) was a prominent Soviet and Ukrainian scholar, specializing in molecular biochemistry and plant hybridization. He served as the rector of Chernivtsi National University from 1987 to 2001 and held the title of professor in 1986. Kostyshyn published over 300 articles, three monographs, and six textbooks, contributing significantly to his field. He mentored numerous PhD candidates and earned various honors, including the title of Honored Scientist of Ukraine and honorary doctorates from Canadian and Romanian universities. Kostyshyn passed away in April 2022.
