Stephen Denis Garrett (1906–1989) was a British plant pathologist and mycologist recognized for his pioneering research on soil-borne pathogens and root pathology. He applied ecological concepts to soil interactions and notably studied the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis, responsible for the cereal disease take-all. His career was primarily spent at Rothamsted Experimental Station and the University of Cambridge, where he served as a professor and held various academic positions. Garrett was influential in the British Mycological Society and authored several books, significantly contributing to the field of mycology.
