Geoffrey Stephen Pedley, known as Stephen, born on September 13, 1940, served as the Bishop suffragan of Lancaster from 1998 to 2005. He was educated at Marlborough and Queens' College, Cambridge, and was ordained in 1966 after attending Ripon College Cuddesdon. Pedley's early career included curacies in Liverpool and Coventry, and he spent some time in Zambia. Upon returning to England in 1977, he became Vicar of St Peter's in Stockton-on-Tees and later in Whickham, before becoming a Residentiary Canon at Durham Cathedral until his elevation to Bishop.
