He invented Salter's duck, a wave energy device, and was a proponent of geoengineering, promoting cloud reflectivity enhancement. He created the world's first multi-directional wave tank and contributed to digital-displacement pump-motors. Salter was also influential in marine cloud brightening and worked with Aquamarine Power on the Oyster wave energy converter.
