Stephen Thomas Whittle is a British legal scholar and a prominent transgender activist associated with the group Press for Change. He has held the position of Professor of Equalities Law at Manchester Metropolitan University since 2007. Whittle served as president of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health between 2007 and 2009. Assigned female at birth, he transitioned and became a leading voice on gender issues. Following the Gender Recognition Act of 2004, he gained legal recognition as a man, allowing him to marry his female partner.
