Stevan Josifović was a Yugoslav classical philologist and ancient historian, born on March 3, 1906, in Novi Sad, and he passed away in 1988. He taught classical philology at the University of Novi Sad after studying at the University of Belgrade. Josifović became a university lecturer in 1954 and an associate professor in 1960. His research focused on Hellenistic Greek literature, particularly Lycoris from Chalcis, and ancient fables, especially Aesop. He also studied the reception of ancient literature in South Slavic national literatures, particularly Croatian.
