Steven Anthony Ballmer is an American businessman and investor who served as CEO of Microsoft from 2000 to 2014. He was hired by Bill Gates in 1980 and dropped out of Stanford's MBA program. Ballmer became president of Microsoft in 1998 and replaced Gates as CEO in January 2000. His tenure saw the company's sales and profits triple, but he faced criticism for losing market dominance, particularly missing trends like the iPhone and Android. He retired from Microsoft in February 2014 and left the board in August 2014.
