Steve de Shazer was a pioneering American psychotherapist known for his work in family therapy. He was born on June 25, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1978, he co-founded the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee with his wife, Insoo Kim Berg. De Shazer is credited with founding the solution-focused brief therapy approach, which aims directly at the client's ultimate goals for psychological and social alignment with themselves and their environment. He passed away on September 11, 2005, in Vienna while on a training and consulting tour in Europe.
