Robert Steven Genter, born on January 4, 1951, in Artesia, California, is a former American swimmer and Olympic champion. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was part of the US team at the 1971 Pan American Games, winning gold in both freestyle relays and a silver in the 400m freestyle. At the 1972 Munich Olympics, Genter won a silver medal in the 200m freestyle and helped the US team secure a gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay. He was later awarded the silver medal in the 400m freestyle after a competitor was disqualified.
