Dr. Stephen Percival Harris, born on March 12, 1956, in Leytonstone, London, England, is the bassist, principal songwriter, and leader of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Besides playing bass, he also plays keyboard and contributes backing vocals. He has been a member of the band since its founding in 1975 and is the sole owner of Iron Maiden. Despite numerous lineup changes, Steve Harris has remained a constant presence in the band, which played a significant role in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement.
