Stephen Gregory Sawyer was an American environmentalist and activist, best known for his long tenure at Greenpeace, where he served for nearly 30 years, including two decades as executive director. He was involved in significant campaigns, notably against French nuclear testing in Polynesia, surviving the bombing of the Greenpeace boat Rainbow Warrior on his 29th birthday. After leaving Greenpeace, he co-founded the Global Wind Energy Council in 2007, where he promoted wind energy and led the organization for ten years until his passing in 2019.
