Robert 'Steve' Stevaert was a Belgian politician from the Socialist Party (sp.a), born on April 12, 1954, in Rijkhoven. He initially served as the mayor of Hasselt, later advancing to hold a ministerial position in the Flemish government. Stevaert was the party chairman of sp.a from 2003 to 2005. After resigning from his political mandates in 2005, he became the governor of Limburg province until 2009 when he retired from public life. In April 2015, he was found dead, suspected to have committed suicide following a rape accusation.
