Steven E. Langnas is an American-Swiss rabbi born on May 19, 1956, in Philadelphia. He attended high school in Philadelphia and studied at Yeshiva University and in Jerusalem, where he met his Swiss wife. From 1990 to 1998, he worked as a teacher, assistant rabbi, and second cantor in Basel. He served as the chief rabbi in Munich from 1998 until 2011. Langnas has been involved in the European Rabbinical Conference and is known for his pastoral care at a seniors' home, as well as being a lecturer at a Catholic theological faculty. He received the Manfred-Görg-Preis in 2018.
