Stylianos Eleftheriou Alexiou was a prominent Greek classical archaeologist, Neo-Hellenist, and Byzantinist born on February 13, 1921, in Iraklio, Crete. He served as the director of the Archaeological Museum of Iraklio from 1962 to 1977 and was a professor at the University of Crete until his retirement in 1991. Alexiou was known for his significant contributions to Minoan archaeology, including the discovery of late Minoan graves at Knossos, and his research in modern Greek literature. He passed away on November 12, 2013.
