Stjepan Mesić is a Croatian politician born on December 24, 1934. He served as the second President of Croatia from 2000 to 2010. Prior to his presidency, he was the first Prime Minister of Croatia in 1990 and held the position of the last President of the Yugoslav Presidency in 1991. Mesić was the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament from 1992 to 1994 and actively participated in the creation of the Croatian Democratic Party. He maintained significant popularity throughout his political career and was re-elected in January 2005 for a second term.
