He co-founded the Birmingham School of Cultural Studies and was influential in expanding cultural studies to examine issues of race and gender. Hall played a pivotal role in the New Left movement and served as the director at the University of Birmingham's Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies. He was also recognized as a prominent cultural theorist by The Observer and actively participated in the Black Arts Movement.
