Stuart Kingsley, born on May 15, 1948, in Stoke Newington, London, is a prominent figure in Optical SETI, which looks for extraterrestrial intelligence through laser beacon signals in visible and infrared spectrums. He earned his B.Sc. Honors and Ph.D. in electronic engineering from The City University and University College London. Moving to the U.S. in 1981, he worked at Battelle before founding Fiberdyne Optoelectronics. Kingsley serves as Director of the Columbus Optical SETI Observatory and has held various engineering roles, retiring in 2008 and relocating to England.
