Stubbs was a cat from Talkeetna, Alaska, who became famous as a democratically elected mayor. Found by Laura Stec in 1997, he was the smallest and weakest of his siblings and lacked a tail. He quickly gained popularity in the town and became a tourist attraction. In the 1997 elections, many residents voted for Stubbs in protest due to his non-confrontational nature and promise of no tax increases. Stubbs served as mayor for 20 years until his death in 2017, during which he was considered very effective for the local community.
