Subhash Ghisingh was an Indian politician and the leader of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), which he founded in 1980. He served as the chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council in West Bengal from 1988 to 2008. Ghisingh led the Gorkhaland movement in the 1980s, advocating for a separate state for the Gorkhas in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. His leadership during this tumultuous period involved significant violence that resulted in numerous deaths, but conflicts were temporarily resolved with the council's establishment in 1988. He passed away on January 29, 2015, after a long illness.
