Sudhir Kumar Sopory, born on January 7, 1948, is an esteemed Indian educationist and plant physiologist. He served as the vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Renowned for his groundbreaking research, he was the first to purify protein kinase C activity from plants and identified topoisomerase as a substrate of this enzyme. An elected Fellow of various prominent Indian science academies and The World Academy of Sciences, Sopory has received numerous accolades, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatangar Prize in 1987 and the Padma Shri in 2007 from the Government of India.
