Sarafian, of Armenian descent, graduated from Highland Park High School and the Detroit Business Institute. She began her career in U.S. government agencies before joining the military in 1942. She passed away on April 13, 1997, in Maitland, Florida, and was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
