Harry Lew was a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines who committed suicide on April 3, 2011, at Patrol Base Gowragi in Afghanistan. His suicide reportedly followed incidents of hazing by fellow Marines. An investigation led to charges against three Marines, including Lew's sergeant, but only one pled guilty to lesser charges. Lew was also the nephew of Congresswoman Judy Chu, who has since advocated for legislation to prohibit military hazing.
