Sumant Misra was an Indian tennis champion and coach, born on January 11, 1923, in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. He played for the Indian team in the Davis Cup for nine years from 1947 to 1956, captaining in 1952 and 1953. Misra reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in doubles in 1947 and 1948 and had a significant impact on Indian tennis, winning multiple championships. He also served as secretary of the Indian Tennis Federation from 1963 to 1966 and was involved with the ITF. Misra was also skilled in squash and golf.
