Susan Alter Klaperman is an American politician born on May 18, 1942. She served in the New York City Council from 1978 until 1993, making history as the first and only Orthodox Jewish woman to hold this position. In 1993, she supported Rudy Giuliani for mayor while criticizing the incumbent, David Dinkins, for ineffectiveness. Alter was also a candidate for the New York City Public Advocate, running as both the Republican and Liberal nominee, but her campaign fell short in both the primary and general election.
