Svend Gunnarsen Auken (May 24, 1943 – August 4, 2009) was a Danish Social Democratic politician who served as the chairman of the Social Democrats from 1987 to 1992. He was a member of the Danish Parliament (Folketing) from 1971 until his death in 2009 and held several ministerial positions during his career. Despite being diagnosed with prostate cancer for the second time on August 23, 2008, Auken continued to pursue his political work until his passing at Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen.
