Svend Bayer is a Danish-British studio potter, born on January 2, 1946, in Uganda. A former pupil of Michael Cardew, Bayer discovered pottery while studying at the University of Exeter. He apprenticed under Cardew and later worked at Brannam Pottery before establishing his workshop in Devon in 1975. Known for his large, boldly decorated ceramics using local clays, he has gained recognition across Europe, the Middle East, North America, Australia, and New Zealand for his craftsmanship. His work is celebrated for its power and artistic expression.
