He has served as the lieutenant governor of Saba on two occasions, first from November 1989 to November 1998 and then from April 2006 to July 2008. Currently, he serves as acting judge in the Joint Court of Justice. Before his political career, Sorton worked as a law enforcement officer with the Netherlands Antilles Police Force.
