Dr. T. K. Sreepada Rao, born on June 4, 1943, is an influential Indian nephrologist in the U.S. He is renowned for discovering two significant renal diseases: nephropathy linked to intravenous heroin addiction in the early 1970s and nephropathy associated with HIV infection in the early 1980s. Rao played a crucial role in pioneering renal transplantation in India by transporting two cadaver donor kidneys from New York to Bombay. With over 130 scientific publications, he is also one of the few International Medical Graduates to hold a Tenured Professorship in a U.S. Medical School.
